About Marlene
This is a little bit about
myself. I am the granddaughter of the late Marvin “Tiny” Ellison & the
late Josephine Ellison, and daughter of the late Scott “Tank” Ellison. I
am a graduate of Northern Kentucky University's Ed2go as a certified paralegal.
I am a member of the Venus Chapter of the Eastern Star in Williamsburg, KY; the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary of Williamsburg, KY; and have been in
clogging for over 22 years performing with
Sugar and Spice Cloggers
for the first 20. I also volunteer for the Whitley County Shrine Club to
help raise money for the Crippled and Burns children's hospitals.
I am the wife of Barry
Fuson originally from Siler Kentucky, presently living in Corbin. Barry
owns his own satellite installation company in Corbin, KY. I am also the mother of 3
wonderful children, Nicholas, Alexander, and Angel. I work for myself at
Angel’s Bounce & More family fun center.

Mrs. Kentucky Pageant
also offers the contestants' sponsors the opportunity to buy advertising in the
program book. With $400.00, you will get a full page ad, or for $225.00 you will
get a half page of advertising. I would like to remind you that these books are
not only distributed during the pageant, but they are sold through out the state
of Kentucky and on the internet.

Platform
I think a platform should be something you truly believe in and
are willing to go the distance for it. My platforms is on child abuse.
The one subject I truly feel strong about.
There are no words that can describe the feelings of a child that
has been abused physical, emotionally, and/or sexually. Scared, ashamed,
feeling it was your fault somehow, are things that are very commonly expressed
by children and adults that have been through this. But those feelings are
just the tip of the iceberg. The physical signs may last a few months to
permanent scaring, but the emotional pain is something you carry for the rest of
your life. As a survivor of Child abuse I can tell you first hand some
things I have had to face truly have never gone away.
Think of this for just a moment every minute in the
United States roughly 6 children are being abused. More than 3,000,000
children are neglected and abused each year. Now take another moment
in this hour alone 8 of those children are here in Kentucky. Over 72,000
children that are victims come from Kentucky each year.
There are some warning sings you can look for:
Nightmares, trouble sleeping, fear of the dark,
or other sleeping problems.
Extreme fear of "monsters".
Multiple bruises on several occasions.
Spacing out at odd times.
Loss of appetite, or trouble eating or
swallowing.
Sudden mood swings: rage, fear, anger, or
withdrawal.
Fear of certain people or places (e.g., a child
may not want to be left alone with a baby-sitter, a
friend, a relative, or some other child or adult; or
a child who is usually talkative and cheery may
become quiet and distant when around a certain
person).
Stomach illness all of the time with no
identifiable reason.
An older child behaving like a younger child,
such as bed-wetting or thumb sucking.
Sexual activities with toys or other children,
such as simulating sex with dolls or asking other
children/siblings to behave sexually.
New words for private body parts.
Refusing to talk about a "secret" he/she has
with an adult or older child.
Talking about a new older friend.
Suddenly having money.
Cutting or burning herself or himself as an
adolescent.
Some of these behavioral signs can show up at other stressful times in a
child's life such as divorce, the death of a family member, friend or pet, or
when there are problems in school, as well as when abuse is involved. Any one
sign doesn't mean the child was abused, but several of them mean that you should
begin asking questions.
If you have any questions, if you are being abused, or you suspect abuse
please call (800) 752-6200. That is the 800 number for reporting
child abuse in Kentucky. It is better to stop the abuse before it is too
late.
